Services Available To You and Your Family

At Glencairn we aim to provide an environment in which each resident's needs can be met. The extensive services that Glencairn and the local community of Auchterarder offer residents of the home are detailed below.

Medical & Nursing

A GP will be allocated to you if your present doctor cannot look after you when you come to Glencairn House. The House is served by St Margaret's Health Centre. A doctor from the Health Centre visits Glencairn every Wednesday. Residents have the right to keep their own doctor, if that doctor is willing to keep them on their list, if outside Auchterarder. If not the resident will be registered at St Margaret's Health Centre Practice. Visits for the residents cared for by other doctors are requested as necessary.

Nursing is provided by the Community Nursing Team from St Margaret's Health Centre.
Relatives please note: If you wish to enquire about your relative, please always ask to speak to the Manager, Assistant Manager or Senior Carer.

Caring – Key Care & Call Bell System

All our residents will be assessed and their needs recorded in their Individual Care plan. Social Care Staff will assist with all needs to enable residents to remain as independent as possible. We are able to assist with all aspects of daily life, washing, dressing, bathing, eating and socialising etc.

A Call Bell System is used throughout Glencairn. When the orange oblong on the wall box is pressed, or the button pushed on the hand held option a signal is sent to the pagers which will activate an alarm sound. This will alert staff that someone is calling for assistance and they will check the pagers to see the resident's room number flash up. A member of the care staff will then come to the resident's aid and cancel the signal.

Medication

If you wish to continue with your own medication, Glencairn will provide secure storage for medication in your room. If you prefer, your medication will be prepared by the chemist and given to you by Senior staff on duty who will give you them at prescribed times. It is not advisable that medication, other than that prescribed by your doctor is taken. If you purchase "over-the-counter remedies" from the chemist, please alert them to any prescribed medication you are taking.

Financial Matters

The resident should not discuss fees with junior staff, but should speak to the Manager, Assistant Manager or the Trust's Secretary. Payments can be made by Standing Order or by Cheque. For the resident's own personal finance, Glencairn will assist in any way it can by providing a lockable security box in their room. Also Glencairn has the facility to keep personal cash in the safe and to bank a larger balance in a specially created account. All transactions are recorded, checked and signed by two members of staff.
If there comes a time when residents that are Privately Funded, find these funds are diminishing it will be possible for you to contact your Care Manager to discuss financial matters in private. Please to not hesitate to ask at the Manager's office for assistance.

Religion

Our local ministers visit one Sunday each month to conduct a service. This is held in the sitting room. Please feel free to make your own religious arrangements and please let us know if we can be of any assistance.

Mail

Mail is delivered each day from Monday to Saturday and handed out during the morning. If you have a letter to post, please hand it to your carer who will either take it to the office or post it for you.

Telephone & Televsion

There is a public call box on which you can either ring out or receive calls. To request a private telephone to be connected in your room, please speak to the Manager or Assistant Manager, who will make arrangements for you with British Telecom. Accounts for personal telephones will be sent to you direct from BT.

Televisions are situated in the lounges but residents can bring their own televisions with them if they wish to do so. For Respite residents, televisions are available to have in their room.

Transport

Glencairn House has a private mini bus which is used for residents' outings. For hospital appointments, we usually arrange for the ambulance transport service or the local voluntary care service. Wherever wished or needed, we shall provide an escort to accompany you. Alternatively you can choose a family member to take you. On occasion we may use the mini bus or a member of staff can take you in their car.

Laundry

A full laundry service is available, but please ensure that all your clothing is marked to avoid things being misplaced. Your clothing will be marked using name tapes to ensure that your own clothes do not go astray. There will be a small charge for your name tapes.
Our laundry is a busy place so we would appreciate Machine Washable clothing to avoid the possibility of clothing being ruined in the wash. Clothes requiring dry cleaning should, if possible be given to relatives.

Visiting

Visitors may visit at any time of the day. Please sign in and out in our Visitors Book. This is also a Fire Register, which will alert us to any visitors in the building.
Visitors are also welcome to join the residents at meal times. Please inform a member of staff, if you wish to stay for meals.

Pets

Glencairn has a small and very pretty cat called Penny. She is very friendly and full of fun. If a resident does not like cats, or has an allergy then he / she should inform the staff who will ensure that the cat is not allowed in their room. In the case of a resident having their own pet at home, we would be willing to discuss the possibility of the pet visiting or staying.
